PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance mixer. SOLUTION: This mixer for a granular material is provided with a cone- shaped mixing vessel 1 having a vertical axis. The vessel is convergent toward a lower part and at least one vertical mixing shaft 3 is freely rotatably provided. A large number of radial elements are projected in a radial direction from the mixing shaft 3, and its distant end supports a paddle 5 in the vicinity of the side wall of the vessel 1. The radial element is slender while the mixing paddle 5 is comparatively short and symmetrical around the axis of the element 4. The rotation of the paddle and the shape of the cone-shaped vessel move contents in a helical shape toward an upper part. The layer of the material nearest to the wall makes smaller helical motion and large ascending motion. As a result, a middle layer receives strong shearing force and promotes mixing. A chopper to shear the material on the upper part of the vessel at the upper part of the mixing paddle 5 is provided at the top of the vessel.
