PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method and apparatus for obtaining stable coating film without generating defects such as unevenness in coating at the start of coating. SOLUTION: This method supplies a coating liquid from a coating head 16 and forms a coating film on a web by forming a bead between the coating head and running web 12. At the start of coating liquid drops are dropped from a drop means 24 above the coating head 16 hear the leading end thereof to form a bead with the liquid drops as a starting point.
