PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which an amount of ink remaining at a nozzle face when a cap member separates from the nozzle face of a recording head is restricted, and the recording head can be efficiently maintained by separating the cap member from the nozzle face of the recording head at an optimum speed. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recorder having the recording head and using a plurality of ink, there is set a capping means which can vary the speed for separating the cap member from the nozzle face of the recording head in accordance with the ink.
