PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for manufacture of bisphenols having high activity, heavy matter resistance and alcohol resistance, and to provide a method for manufacturing bisphenols using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst for manufacture of bisphenols is obtained by modifying a sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin with (a) pyridine-alkanethiols and (b) aminoalkanethiols and/or thiazolidines. In the method for manufacturing bisphenols, phenols are reacted with ketones in the presence of the catalyst for manufacture of bisphenols. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
