LIGHT DEFLECTOR ELEMENT, OPTICAL PATH SWITCHING DEVICE AND IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch a deflection angle of emission light to incident light at a high speed.

SOLUTION: A light deflector element is provided with a liquid crystal/high polymer complex 14 for which a liquid crystal material is dispersed and held in a high polymer matrix, and a light-transmissive electrode 13 disposed on the surface of it. An emission plane 12 is constituted so as to be inclined to an incident plane 11 and thus the incident light 20 is emitted at the deflection angle θ. By changing a refractive index of the liquid crystal/high polymer complex 14 by control of a voltage by the electrode 13, the deflection angle θ of the emission light is changed. The light deflector element switching an optical path at a high speed by such an operation is obtained.
