PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively and effectively adsorb and separate an organic pollutant present in waste oil within the maximum range of about several thousand ppm and high in the affinity with oil. SOLUTION: A technique for removing the organic pollutant in waste oil comprises a process for selectively adsorbing and separating the organic pollutant in waste oil, by continuously bringing polluted oil containing a very small amount of the organic pollutant into contact with an adsorbent (according to circumstances, one or more times). In this technique, a porous adsorbent having an aprotic polar solvent held thereto is used as the adsorbent. Further, an adsorbent obtained by supporting fine particles of a noble metal on the surface of a porous body may be used as the adsorbent. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
