PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose ester film excellent in optical characteristics and film strength as the protective film of a polarizing plate, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The cellulose ester film is manufactured by casting a cellulose ester-containing solution on a metal support by a solution casting film forming method and peeling the formed film to fix or stretch the same in a lateral direction. When the feed speed of the metal support is set to A (m/min) and the feed speed of a taking-up part is set to B (m/min) in a process for drying the formed cellulose film until the residual amount of the solvent in the film becomes 1 mass % or less after peeling and taking up the dried film, B/A is set to 1.005-1.100.
