<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic fluid seal device having a reduced space for sealing, and easy to handle while maximally preventing contact between a magnetic fluid and a liquid intruding from without. <P>SOLUTION: A region of a disk 6 and an outer pole piece 8 is a barrier to a liquid intruding from without, such as rainwater and oil. A clearance between the disk 6 and the outer pole piece 8 especially exerts a labyrinth effect. The disk 6 and the outer pole piece 8 can also exert a water/oil-repellent effect to improve an anti-intrusion effect on an external liquid such as rainwater and oil. A shield plate is not needed to be set outside a seal body 4, and the magnetic fluid 5 retained is protected against extruding sideway from a pole piece 9, so that the overall width of the device is reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
