PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of parts or the cost of adjustment in the manufacturing process and to realize the reduction of the space by a constitution wherein a single laser light source and a single scanning polygon mirror in an image exposing unit are shared by all colors in a color image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: There is disclosed an image forming apparatus wherein the laser beam light from the single light source is scanned by being reflected by the single polygon mirror by rotating the polygon mirror and a lens for performing fθcorrection of the laser beam light, deflecting the light in a direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction, and imaging on a latent image carrier body is used. The polygon mirror includes the even number (four or more) of reflection faces having two different angles with respect to the direction of the rotational axis which are alternately disposed. The laser beam light is deflected by the polygon mirror in the direction of the rotational axis and the lens divides the laser beam light into two beams in the scanning direction and deflects each of beams to advance them two directions, respectively so that four laser beam lights in the four directions are produced and images of four colors can be exposed.
