PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the breakage of feeding mechanisms such as cover devices or ball screws by allowing the automatic detection of the state of chippings or others being accumulated on the cover devices. SOLUTION: The chipping accumulation detecting method and its device for a machine tool having a moving table 1 provided movably on a guide plane and the cover devices 2 provided on both sides of the moving table 1 for covering the guide plane comprise load current detecting means 31 for detecting a load current in a servo motor 30 for a feed shaft as detecting means 3 for detecting a degree of the accumulation of chippings K on covers 20 when the moving table 1 is located in each of a first region and a second region in its stroke range, determining means 4 for determining whether the allowable amount or more of chippings K are accumulated or not on the cover devices 2 in accordance with a value detected by the detecting means 3, and informing means 5 for informing of the accumulation of the chippings K in accordance with the determination result of the determining means 4.
