<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-fixing attenuator that can control an amount of attenuation over a wavelength region in a relatively wide range with improved reproducibility, at the same time has the amount of attenuation having less wavelength dependency, has improved reflection characteristics, can prevent mixture of impurities or the like to a connection interface since the connection interface need not be polished, and at the same time has a simple structure and can be manufactured at relatively low costs. <P>SOLUTION: In a basic mode of the light-fixing attenuator, normal optical fibers 1a and 1b are fused and connected to both the ends of a metal-doped optical fiber 3 where a metal ion in which absorption increases, at a used wavelength band is added to a core section. In another mode, a metal-doped optical fiber where a metal ion whose absorption increases at a specific wavelength band is added to the core section is connected in series with another or a plurality of metal-doped optical fibers where a metal ion whose absorption increases at another wavelength band is added to the core section for fusion and connection.
