PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fibrous calcium silicate carbonate by a hydrothermal reaction so as to suppress decrease in the strength of paper and to decrease the density of paper when the carbonate is used as filler for paper making and as a pigment for coating. SOLUTION: Quicklime, silicon dioxide and calcium carbonate are mixed so as to obtain 0.8 to 1.8 Ca/Si ratio in the hydrothermal reaction of the above compounds, to which an alkali aqueous solution with 0.0005 to 0.2 mol/l concentration is added to obtain 5 to 20 solid/liquid ratio, and the resultant mixture is made to react under conditions of 180 to 300°C for 1 to 10 hours to obtain the fibrous calcium silicate carbonate. When the obtained compound is used as filler for paper making, decrease in the strength of the paper, particularly in the tensile strength and rigidity, is suppressed while the paper density is made low.
