PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contents distribution method realizing direct charging and settling operation between a broadcasting agent and a contents purchaser and protection of contents purchaser's privacy in distributing contents from the broadcasting agent adopting a limited receiving system through a network.

SOLUTION: When a contents distribution request is sent from a contents reproducing device 90 to a contents distribution server 20, the server 20 authenticates a user on the basis of personal information (user identification number, etc.), recorded in a CAS card C1inserted into the device 90 and distributes the requested contents to the device 90 on the basis of the authentication result.
