INTERFEROMETER TYPE OPTICAL ISOLATOR AND OPTICAL CIRCULATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator or optical circulator which can remove reflected light of polarization reverse to the polarization of incident light.

SOLUTION: An interferometer type optical isolator or circulator which operates to one polarized wave is characterized in that a polarization dependent reciprocal phase shifter has its length so adjusted as to obtain a 90°reciprocal phase shift of reflected light of the same polarization with the incident light and a 180°reciprocal phase shift of reflected light of polarization reverse to the incident light.
