<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low nonlinear single mode optical fiber in which the number of multiple wavelengths can be made large by sufficiently suppressing a nonlinear effect and making a dispersion slope sufficiently small. <P>SOLUTION: In this low nonlinear single mode optical fiber consisting of a core and a clad 5 coating the core, the core is formed with a four-layer structure wherein a first core layer being the innermost layer to a fourth core layer 4 being the outermost layer are layered concentrically, and is provided with a refractive index distribution being n1>n3>n2≥n0>n4 when the average refractive index of the first core layer 1 is defined as n1, the average refractive index of a second core layer as n2, the average refractive index of a third core layer as n3, the average refractive index of the fourth refractive index as n4, and the refractive index of the clad 5 as n0. The inclination of a wavelength distribution as a propagation characteristic in a wavelength of 1.55μm band isη0.048 ps/m/nm/km, and an effective cross section area is≥52μm<SP>2</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
