APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SENSING ROTATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for sensing the rotation of an apparatus such as an optical pointing device.

SOLUTION: An apparatus (300) for sensing rotation is provided with a plurality of motion sensors (16) constructed in a substantially coplanar arrangement. The plurality of motion sensors are respectively configured to generate incremental movement data indicative of movement of the sensor in two- dimensions. A rotation data generator (302) generates rotation data based on the incremental movement data. The rotation data represents the rotation of a first one of the motion sensors about a second one of the motion sensors.
