<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polyurethane ionomer efficiently, positively and simply in the absence of a solvent, and to obtain a cover material for a golf ball, a sealing material and an adhesive material each comprising the polyurethane ionomer produced by the process. <P>SOLUTION: The process for producing the polyurethane ionomer comprises reacting a polyol, a part of the amount of a polyisocyanate and a chain extender having an ionic segment in the absence of the solvent to produce a urethane prepolymer, and in the next step, reacting the urethane prepolymer with the polyisocyanate to produce the polyurethane ionomer.
