<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement compressor having a torque detection means having sufficient sensitivity and precision at low cost. <P>SOLUTION: This variable displacement compressor is provided with a piston 11 reciprocated and driven by a swash plate 8 having a variable inclination angle to adjust capacity by changing stroke of the piston. A tail part 11a connected with the piston is provided with underfill parts 11c, 11d to distinguish the underfill parts in the tail part from parts other than the underfill parts by a proximity sensor 14.
