PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the superior carbon disulfide adsorption capability by using activated carbon, in which the BET specific surface area and the adsorption capacity of carbon disulfide demonstrate the specified values, respectively in an adsorbent having the large adsorption capacity for carbon disulfide used frequently for a gas mask. SOLUTION: An adsorbent for carbon disulfide is used frequently for a gas mask for protecting a worker in a manufacturing site of viscose, rayon or the like. The adsorbent is composed of activated carbon provided with the BET specific surface area of 1900m<2> or more, and the adsorption capacity of carbon disulfide of 9mmol/g or more, preferably the BET specific surface area of 2100m<2> /g or more and the adsorption capacity of 12mmol/g or more. The adsorbent is prepared by low temperature plasma treating the ordinary activated carbon. In the plasma treatment, coconut shell activated carbon in the market is filled into a treatment chamber 3, and then the pressure inside of the treatment chamber 3 is reduced to the given pressure, and then microwaves are emitted into the treatment chamber 3 to make the inside of the chamber in the plasma state. |
