PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems arising in connection with the copyright management, when distributed users use a system by which contents are exchanged mutually.

SOLUTION: The content distribution system comprises a client system 1 for requesting contents, a server system 2 for distributing contents, and a key server 3 for distributing a key for contents. The key is exchanged between the server system 2 and the key server 3 using a predetermined protocol. The predetermined protocol is a protocol that the key server 3 contains authentication for determining whether a device of a counterpart is legitimate or not, and the key is encrypted and protected for distribution in order not to occur an incident in which any devices other than the legitimate device determined by the key server 3 acquire the key.
