<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a contribution to energy saving by significantly reducing hitherto wastefully consumed control power of a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter. <P>SOLUTION: In the 2-level PWM inverter, two or more sets of circuits with two switches connected in series consisting of rectification elements are connected in reverse-parallel to switching elements includes and a method is taken for inserting dead time permitting no conduction into a PWM command signal. Further, a compensation method is used for preventing an output voltage drop due to the dead time.
