PURPOSE: An extended clear button function providing method of a mobile terminal is provided to allow a user to easily input characters by automatically converting a backspace key function for deleting a letter before a curser and a delete key function for deleting a letter after the curser. CONSTITUTION: If a user presses a clear button while inputting a text message, the clear button is operated in a backspace key mode to delete a letter before a curser. When the user presses a direction key to move the curser back to an erroneously inputted specific letter while inputting letters, the clear button is switched to a delete key mode. When the curser is positioned at the specific letter, the specific letter is designated in block, and when the clear button is pressed, the specific letter and the following letters are deleted.
