An ink jet ink composition comprising: from 40.0 to 99.0% by weight of water; from 0.1 to 20.0% by weight of a pigment; from 0 to 70.0% by weight of a water miscible co-solvent; and from 0.1 to 20.0% by weight of a water-reducible addition polymer; wherein the weight average molecular weight of the polymer is from 2,000 to 100,000; the acid number is from 50 to 400; and the acid group on the polymer is neutralized by an alkaline metal hydroxide such as lithium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide potassium hydroxide, or a mixture thereof; and wherein all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the ink composition. An ink jet printing method is also disclosed.
