PURPOSE: An idle engine rpm(revolutions per minute) control method of a diesel engine is provided to prevent engine rpm from suddenly rising by compensating for desired fuel amount according to a plunger position signal if the sudden rise of the engine rpm is maintained over predetermined time. CONSTITUTION: An idle engine rpm control method of a diesel engine comprises steps of detecting the accelerator pedal operation degree, engine rpm, a plunger position, an idle switch state, an ignition switch state, and the vehicle speed if the engine is started(S100); outputting the accelerator pedal operation degree, the engine rpm, the plunger position, the idle switch state, the ignition switch state, and the vehicle speed(S110); receiving the accelerator pedal operation degree, the engine rpm, the plunger position, the idle switch state, the ignition switch state, and the vehicle speed and deciding engine no-load idle conditions(S120); deciding desired fuel amount compensation if the acting state of the engine satisfies the engine no-load idle conditions(S130); compensating for desired fuel amount if the desired engine idle engine rpm is maintained over predetermined time(S140); deciding the satisfying state of conditions for terminating the desired fuel amount compensation(S150); and outputting a fuel pump drive signal according to the decision of the desired fuel amount by the accelerator pedal opening degree and engine rpm changes(S160).
