<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image reliability, fixability and machine reliability by preventing the defective responsiveness in terms of a temperature detection and detection variations caused by the soil of a contact type temperature sensor. <P>SOLUTION: In the case of performing an initializing operation which is required when a power source is turned on and when recovering from an energy saving mode, the rotating operation of a heat roller 32 is performed in a state where a power is not supplied to a heater 31 when the temperature detected by a thermistor (temperature sensor) 34 arranged in an image area in contact with the heat roller is equal to or below a prescribed value lower than a toner melting temperature.
