Described are complexes formed from a molecular encapsulation agent and a compound of formula 1 or 2, wherein: n is 1-10, R is H, alkyl, hydroxy, halogen, alkoxy, amino or carboxy. Also described is a method of delivering a compound to a plant to inhibit an ethylene response in the plant, the method comprising contacting the above complex with a solvent capable of dissolving the molecular encapsulation agent, thereby liberating the compound so that it can contact the plant.
