A method of producing an oil extract from seeds of plants selected from the group including meadowfoam, brassicas and crambe comprises washing the seed with a solvent, preferably the solvent is hexane or a binary azeotropic mixture of hexane and ethanol, whereby oil from the seed is dissolved in the solvent, then separating the spent seed and the solvent solution and distilling the solvent solution at a temperature of equal to or less than 120oC and a pressure equal to or less than 50 kPa to obtain an oil extract from the solvent. The oil extract produced contains a therapeutically effective amount of glucosinolates (GSL) compounds. The extract may contain isothiocyanante (ITCL) and thiocyanate (TCL) or nitrile thiones and phenolic compounds. The oil extract can be mixed with a base aqueous solution to produce a therapeutic aqueous solution. A method for producing a light oil fraction using the oil extract obtained and an oil solution are described. The oil extract, light oil fraction, therapeutic aqueous solution, oil solution or combinations thereof can be used in the production of pharmaceuticals compositions fro the treat of a skin condition and their symptoms selected from eczema, facial eczema, dermatitis, external ulcers, welts, rashes, insect bites, allergic reactions and other irritations, burns, wounds, psoriasis, acneiform eruptions, dryness, dry skin, irritation, skin atrophy and secondary infections. A medicament including a therapeutic amount of GSL and may further contain ITCL and TCL can also be used in the same treatment. Also described is a solid composition comprising the spent seed obtained from the production of the oil extract. The spent seed can be used as a fungicide, anti-mould composition and a food preservative, particularly for fruits, nuts and nut type fruits.
