<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reaction method for performing oxidation and reduction with a high selectivity using an oxidation-reduction reactor without requiring the supply or replacement of a reducing agent and an oxidizing agent. <P>SOLUTION: The oxidation-reduction reactor, which is constituted of electrodes comprising a solid electrolyte comprising an oxygen ion conductor and at least an electron conductor, is used in oxidation-reduction reaction. In this reaction method, a reducing substance (R) is applied to a cathode to produce a reduced substance of AO<SB>x-y</SB>(0 < y ≤ x) by the oxidation-reduction reaction of an oxide AO<SB>x</SB>and the reducing substance (R) based on a reaction formula : AO<SB>x</SB>+ R → RO<SB>y</SB>+ AO<SB>x-y</SB>or an oxidizing substance (R'O<SB>x</SB>) is applied to an anode to produce an oxide of AO<SB>x</SB>by the oxidation-reduction reaction of a compound A and the oxidizing substance (R'O<SB>x</SB>) based on a reaction formula : A + R'O<SB>x</SB>→ R'O<SB>x-y</SB>+ AO<SB>y</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
