The procedure consists of crushing the flax stems to separate the fibres, which are cleaned by blades on the rotors (14, 14') on a stripper. The stripper has a conventional rail (12) with its axis parallel to the flax holding and transporting line (11, 11'), a parallel counter-rail (13), and a turbine with at least two rotors (14, 14') that have their axes lying parallel to the holding and transporting assembly. The rotors have perfectly linear blades between the stripper's inlet and outlet zones. set at an angle to the rotors' axes so that they act progressively on the fibres. A variant of the design has both linear blades and counter-cutters, both positioned at an angle to the rotors' axes (18, 18'). The blade holder (16) has apertures in the fixing zones on the rotor to permit adjustment of the distance between the blades and counter-rail.
