<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp the more proper amount of remaining toner even in an operation mode wherein developer consumption is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: After a developer remaining amount detecting means detects that the amount of a developer is decreased to the level of a predetermined amount, images which are formed are counted. A user is able to set the amountof a developer to be saved saved in a saving mode (52). At this time, the number of formed images that a counter counts is weighted according to the extent of the saving mode. When it is judged that the remaining amount of the developer reaches zero as a result of the counting by the counter, the image forming operation is stopped.
