<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an image forming apparatus that reproduces an image with satisfactory print image quality by preventing not only deterioration of print image quality which is caused by the slack of a recording medium but also deterioration of print image quality which is caused by excessive tension of the recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A medium tension detection means 5 detects tension applied to a recording medium 8 which occurs due to the difference between the speed at which the recording medium 8 is transported at a transfer part 2 and the speed at which the recording medium 8 is transported at the fixing part 3.
