The invention relates to a device and a method for determining the position of a mobile transponder comprising a stationary base system that is provided with at least two transmitters, each of which emits one transmission signal having a given amplitude by means of suitable antennas. Previously known devices and methods for determining the position of a transponder especially by means of low-frequency electromagnetic fields are technically complex and error-prone. Compared with said previously known devices and methods, the inventive device and method have the advantage of requiring very little effort for installing the device because the antennas are placed at a short distance from each other while the inventive method allows the position to be determined in a fast and precise manner.
