PURPOSE: A method for recording data in an optical disk device is provided to down-control horizontal resolution of data to be recorded on an optical disk if the data is a source channel. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer sets an operational mode of an optical disk device to an outer input data recording mode(S10), and confirms a source channel of input data(S11). If the input data is a data stream of a digital video camcorder(S12), the microcomputer variably controls resolution of recorded data encoded in a VDR system. The VDR system down-controls horizontal/vertical resolution of the data(S13), and records/stores the encoded data on a DVD(S15). If a data recording operation is terminated at the request of a user(S16), the microcomputer cancels the currently set outer input data recording mode, and performs a reproduction process(S17).
