Each cylinder (1) in a engine has a valve (8), which opens and closes a duct (7,9) leading to a common exhaust gas collection vessel (10). Timings for the valve are chosen so that the valve is open for a period, in which the exhaust pressure is above the pressure of the fresh air supplied to the cylinder, and for a further period, in which fresh air is fed into the cylinder. The open period is at the beginning of the opening of outlet valve/s (5) and during max. opening of intake valves (4). The fresh air pressure is the charging pressure supplied by the turbocharger. The collection vessel contains a cooling device (11). |
