PURPOSE: A portable melody editing device is provided to allow a user to directly manufacture sound appropriate for its own preferences, and utilize the same as bell music in a portable terminal of the user, thereby enhancing functionalities of the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A key input portion includes a plurality of melody keys(113), a sound source button(109) and a background sound selection button(115), which are mounted on one side surface of a housing of a predetermined shape. A display window(111) is disposed on the one side surface of the housing. A data input socket(107) is mounted on one end of the housing, which has a coupling structure with a connection hole of the portable terminal to communicate with the portable terminal. A key signal memory stores scale degree information corresponding to a key signal inputted from the plurality of melody keys(113). A tone color memory stores tone color information corresponding to the sound source button(109). A controller provides sound information set by the user to an internal memory of the portable terminal, extracts each of coded sound information from the key signal memory in response to a key signal provided thereto from the key input member, extracts a tone color of the sound information from the tone color memory, and performs sound modulation and combination. An interface is connected to an output port of the controller, and provides music information to the data input socket(107). A display portion displays a control pattern of the controller and sound information on the display window(111).
