PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling a digital projector are provided to protect a lamp of the projector. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling a digital projector is provided. A request for turning on the digital projector is received(102). Temperature data regarding a light source are received from a temperature sensor(104). The temperature data is compared with a predetermined threshold value(108). If the temperature data is larger than the predetermined threshold value and if the request for turning on the digital projector is received, a cooling device is turned on. If the temperature data is smaller than the predetermined threshold value and the request for turning on the digital projector is received, the light source is operated.
