<p>Modeling and simulation of biological systems comprises at least one morphological instance comprising at least one biochemical component identifying persistent properties of a functional biological entity and at least one transformation representing the manner in which the component develops as a function of the spatial-temporal context. The system is modeled using the following: at least one morphological instance comprising at least one biochemical component identifying persistent properties of a functional biological entity and at least one transformation representing the manner in which the component develops as a function of the spatial-temporal context. A spatial instance represents at least one spatial characteristic of the biological functional entity. A temporal occurrence represents at least one temporal characteristic of the functional biological entity. In the method, evolution of the functional biological entities is simulated by recursive determination of the effect of all changes affecting these occurrences, including transformations, their functioning and their evolution (their activities). The temporal instance is the age of the functional biological entity or a period during which it is active. The biological component is an organism, tissue, cell, organite or molecule. Some of the entities are included in at least one superior functional biological entity. Some include lower functional biological entities. Some form environments for others. The biological system also includes intangible functional biological entities, modeled by temporal occurrences and if appropriate, spatial and morphological occurrences. The intangibles comprise biochemical reactions.</p> |
