<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerant for a grooved tube which is a natural refrigerant, does not take part in the depletion of the ozone layer, has extremely reduced influence on global warming, and can improve the heat transfer efficiency of a cooling device using the grooved tube, and the cooling device. <P>SOLUTION: The refrigerant for the grooved tube has propane as the major component. Or the refrigerant for the grooved tube comprises a major component composed of a mixture of propane and n-butane at a ratio of the propane of 10-40 mass% or ≥90%.
