<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small projection type display device easy to carry out wiring and having stable display of an solid image. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device 1 includes a prism 3 for synthesizing colored light of RGB, an optical system 2 for casting the colored light of RGB into the prism 3, a projection lens 6, a liquid crystal cell 4 for switching the polarizing orientation of the projection light between 0° and 90°, and a control unit 8. In this case, right-eye colored light and left-eye colored light of each colored RGB light are cast alternately for every one field. While the casting timing of right-eye colored light and the left-eye colored light of G color light is dislocated from the casting timing of the right-eye colored light and the left-eye colored light of R and B colored light, a solid image is displayed by switching the polarizing orientation of the projection light from the prism 3 between the 0° and the 90° for every one field through the liquid crystal cell 4.
