An apparatus for detecting an audio jack is provided to prevent an error generated when using an external module by detecting which one of a strobe and an ear-microphone module is inserted to the audio jack. An apparatus for detecting an audio jack in a mobile terminal, capable of being connected by an external strobe module or an ear-microphone module, comprises an audio jack(510), a comparing portion(520) and a detecting portion(530). The audio jack outputs a connection detection signal when the external strobe module or external ear-microphone module is connected. The audio jack outputs a first voltage level detection signal when the external strobe module is connected and a second voltage level detection signal when the external ear-microphone module is connected. The comparing unit receives the detection signals and a reference voltage, compares voltage levels of the detection signals and the reference voltage, and generates a decision signal of different logic according to the compared result. The detecting portion decides which of the strobe module and the ear-microphone module is connected according to the decision signal of different logic, when an external module is detected as being connected through the connection detection signal.
