PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerization process induced by two-photon absorption that has a first step of forming a latent image by irradiating light capable of absorbing two photons and a second step of causing polymerization by exciting the latent image and to provide a method for optical recording by two-photon absorption.

SOLUTION: The polymerization process (1) induced by two-photon absorption has at least a first step of forming a latent image by irradiating light capable of absorbing two photons and a second step of causing polymerization by exciting the latent image. The method (2) for optical recording by two-photon absorption has at least a first step of forming a latent image of a chromophore by two-photon absorption and a second step of recording through the refractive index difference produced by irradiating the latent image of the chromophore with a desirable light and causing polymerization based on linear absorption of the chromophore.
