<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which failure in carrying due to meandering of a transfer belt or failure in alignment of a color image are prevented from occurring without reducing the productivity by preventing a transfer member from being separated from all image carriers, even in a mode selectively forming an image in the case of transferring in a multi-color image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes at least 2 image carriers, a developing means forming the image on each of the image carriers and a transfer means transferring the image on the image carrier by being brought into contact with at least the 2 image carriers, and has a mode to selectively form the images on at least the 2 image carriers, wherein a lubricant applying means for applying the lubricant to the image carriers to lower the friction coefficient against the transfer body on the image carrier, and the transfer means is continued to be in contact with the image carrier, even in the non-image forming mode of the facing image carrier. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
