<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium enabling high density recording suitable for short wave length recording which is high in reflection rate and forms a good short bit since heat characteristics and optical characteristics of parent dye A constituting a recording layer and heat characteristics and optical characteristics of an additive satisfy conditions of this matter. <P>SOLUTION: Metal azo dyes A and B satisfying the following conditions are mixed in the recording layer to be used. (1) a reduced amount in a main loss process when A is raised in temperature (10°C/min) in nitrogen a loss in principal loss process is 40%-55% and a loss inclination is 0.5%-3%/°C. (2) B is a temperature increase in the same condition, a loss is 55% or over and a loss inclination is 10%/°C or over, (3) a molar extinction coefficient in the solution is 50,000 or over and a spectral absorption maximum most near to a regenerated light wave length in a film state is in 40-60 nm short wave side from a regenerated light wave length. (4) Spectral absorption maximum most near to the regenerated light wave length in the film state is in a 60 nm shorter wave side than the regenerated from the regenerated light wave length.
