<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer used in a method by which feeders are optimized. <P>SOLUTION: The printer has a printing unit for performing printing on predetermined types of receiving mediums, a plurality of feeders holding the receiving mediums, and a control unit. The control unit has an identifying means for identifying that at least two of the plurality of feeders hold the predetermined types of receiving mediums. In addition, the control means has a means for identifying the amounts of the receiving mediums that can fill at least two of the feeders up to the maximum amount of the feeders, and a selection means for selecting the feeder that can be filled with the maximum amount of the receiving mediums for feeding the receiving mediums to a printing unit.
