<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump type water heater, surely defrosting a heat exchanger in defrosting operation, and preventing breakage of a water coil. <P>SOLUTION: In this heat pump type water heater, water is heated using a refrigerating cycle composed of a compressor 1, a heat exchanger 2, an expansion valve 4 and a water-heat exchanger 5, and the heated water is stored in a hot water storing tank 9.
