<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing the generation of reverse transfer which is conventionally generated when performing static elimination before transfer using a scorotoron charger. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus which performs the static elimination of the surface of a photoconductor drum on which a toner image is formed with the scorotoron charger 101 prior to primary transfer, a toner adhesion amount sensor 102 which detects an amount of toner on an intermediate transfer belt is arranged near the upstream side of a moving direction on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt from a primary transfer area of the photoconductor drum to which static elimination processing is performed by the scorotoron charger.
