<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately attain the guarantee of image quality and the detection of toner empty accompanying a cartridge replacing work, without providing a special mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a cover opening/closing detection means 6 for detecting the opening/closing of the cover 3a to a cartridge receiving part 3, a drive control means 7 for controlling a cartridge 4 and a reserve tank 5 so as to normally operate on the condition that the closed state of the cover is detected, on the other hand, on the condition that the open state of the cover is detected, for stopping the drive of the cartridge 4 and controlling the reserve tank 5 so as to normally operate, a toner presence sensor 8 arranged in the reserve tank 5, for detecting at least the presence of the toner in the cartridge 4 while the toner is stored in the reserve tank 5, and a toner empty detection means 9 for deciding the detection of the toner empty based on the detection signal by the toner presence sensor 8, and the deciding processing of a deciding means 12 for the toner empty detecting means 9 is changed based on the detection information obtained by the cover opening/closing detection means 6. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
