<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide neutral soluble β-glucans which exert potent and specific immunological effects without stimulating the production of cytokines, that is, which have immunostimulating properties but do not stimulate the production of IL-1 and/or TNF in vitro, preparations containing the neutral soluble β-glucans, and a new manufacturing process therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The glucan is an aqueous soluble β(1-3) glucan in a triple helical conformation with periodic branching via β(1-6) glycosidic linkages. The glucan can enhance immune responses, without simulating the production of biochemical mediators (1L-1 and TNF) that cause inflammatory side effects in vitro. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
