Bevel gear manufacture consists of machining, cementation, tempering, cooling, rectifying and shot-blasting

The process consists of machining rough steel workpieces to the required dimensions, cementation at a pressure of below 1 bar and at very high temperature in a carbon-rich gas, tempering in a closed chamber with a fluid in a gas phase (e.g. nitrogen) and at a constant temperature, e.g. 25 [deg] C. The tempered workpieces are cooled to a temperature below 200 [deg] C, rectified and shot-blasted. During the cementation stage the workpieces are heated to a temperature close to 1000 [deg] C.
