An off-road vehicle (10) has an undercarriage (11) and a superstructure and a tilting mechanism (15) for levelling the superstructure. The tilting mechanism comprises upper (30) and lower (40) members coupled to tilt about a tilt axis (33) by a hinge. The lower member (40) is pivotally mounted to the undercarriage (11). A brake (not shown) allows the orientation of the tilt axis relative to the undercarriage to be locked. The tilt mechanism allows the superstructure to be levelled by a method which includes the steps of releasing the brake (not shown), rotating the lower member until the tilt axis (33) is horizontal, and tilting the upper member (30) about the tilt axis until the superstructure (14) is level. The tilting mechanism is simple and provides a full range of tilt in all directions. A tilting mechanism may be retrofitted to existing vehicles.
